A LOCAL man with 27 previous criminal records has been arrested after he was suspected of assaulting and injuring his wife with a sharp weapon in Cheras.
Kuala Lumpur police chief Datuk Fadil Marsus said Cheras district police received a report from a doctor at Ampang Hospital on Aug 29 after the victim, a woman in her 40s, was treated for injuries allegedly sustained after being beaten and cut by her husband.
The couple were married through a customary marriage that had not been registered, he said.
“The victim, who sustained injuries, was admitted to the orthopaedic ward before lodging a police report herself after being discharged from hospital on Sept 4,” he said in a statement today.
Acting on information, a team from the Cheras district police Criminal Investigation Division (D7) arrested the suspect at the Dang Wangi district police headquarters compound at about 4.10pm on Sept 8.
Fadil said the suspect, a local man in his 30s who was unemployed, had 27 previous records comprising 15 criminal cases and 12 cases under the Dangerous Drugs Act.
A preliminary urine screening also tested positive for drugs, he said.
The suspect was remanded for six days until Sept 14 to assist investigations before being released on police bail the same day.
The case is being investigated under Section 324 of the Penal Code for voluntarily causing hurt using a weapon. - September 16, 2026
