MELAKA Chief Minister Datuk Seri Ab Rauf Yusoh has told the media to “come when I call”, fuelling speculation that the state assembly dissolution is drawing closer as the state prepares for its election.
“One more Friday? I will call. When I call the media, then come,” he said when asked whether the dissolution would be announced next Friday.
Ab Rauf, however, stopped short of confirming a date, saying the “Friday to Friday” reference was an indicator of the time needed to settle outstanding administrative matters before the election.
“Everyone is wondering when the state assembly will be dissolved.
“It is no longer a secret, it is just a matter of waiting for the right time. I have not yet got the timing,” he told reporters after officiating the Melaka-level Senior Citizens, Persons with Disabilities and Children’s Day celebration in Masjid Tanah on Wednesday.
He said the state election would be held in the near term and that the media would be summoned when the time came.
“I gave the indicator from Friday to Friday because during this period, we still have many matters to settle in administering Melaka. God willing, the Melaka state election will certainly be held soon. So I will call, and when I call the media, then come,” he said.
Ab Rauf had previously referred to a countdown of “four Fridays” and later “two Fridays” when asked about the election date.
Meanwhile, the Melaka Chief Minister’s Office on Tuesday denied claims that Yang Dipertua Negeri Melaka Tun Seri Setia Dr Mohd Ali Mohd Rustam had signed the state assembly dissolution documents with Ab Rauf at the Chief Executive Officer’s lounge at MITC, Ayer Keroh.
Chief Media Communications Officer Nor Hafizah Mohd Sati said the office had not been informed of any such meeting. - September 17, 2026
