PAS president Tan Sri Abdul Hadi Awang says he is ready to produce evidence in court to support his claim that the United States offered assistance to topple the Barisan Nasional (BN) government in 2014.
The Marang MP said he had given police a statement lasting about an hour at the PAS headquarters in Kuala Lumpur over the allegation, which has been denied by the US Embassy.
“We will submit the evidence to the court, but so far there is no information regarding any prosecution process,” he told reporters after delivering a duha lecture at Rusila Mosque in Marang today.
Hadi made the allegation during his winding-up speech at the 72nd PAS Annual Muktamar in Kota Bharu on Sept 5, claiming that several PAS leaders had been invited to meet representatives of the US Embassy during then-US president Barack Obama’s visit to Malaysia in 2014.
He alleged that the US side had offered assistance to bring down the government at the time and that a US representative later asked him who PAS would propose as prime minister.
The US Embassy has denied the allegation, with US Chargé d’Affaires ad interim David H. Gamble Jr saying the United States had never sought to determine Malaysia’s political leadership.
“Any account to the contrary is false,” he said.
Police opened an investigation paper after receiving 12 reports over Hadi’s claim. They have recorded statements from 12 witnesses and subsequently recorded Hadi’s statement as part of the ongoing investigation.
The case is being investigated under Section 505(b) of the Penal Code and Section 233 of the Communications and Multimedia Act 1998. Police have not announced any decision to prosecute.
Hadi’s political secretary, Syahir Sulaiman, had earlier said the investigation remained ongoing, with further witnesses expected to be called. - September 18, 2026
