KUALA LUMPUR – Umno is a power-hungry party desperate to unseat Perikatan Nasional, with no regard for the people’s plight amid the country’s Covid-19 and flood crises, said Perikatan Nasional Women’s secretary Haniza Talha.
In a statement today, she reamed out the Barisan Nasional lynchpin for its selfishness, saying it only adds to Malaysians’ woes.
“As the country and the people continue to face the challenges of Covid-19 alongside the flood disaster, we are shocked by reports of some politicians and their parties’ greed and desperation to overthrow the government in order to pave the way for a general election to be held.
“It seems that the increase in Covid-19 cases, which have reached four figures almost every day, and the floods do not affect them, as long as their political survival is achieved.”
She said the actions of Umno president Datuk Seri Ahmad Zahid Hamidi and his party are in violation of the Yang di-Pertuan Agong’s order that all politicians set aside their differences in the fight against the coronavirus pandemic.
“Umno needs to return to its nature to help the people.
“Do not be desperate to save themselves, aim for positions and go power-crazy until the country turns chaotic.
“All the efforts of the country’s top leaders and our frontliners who are trying to reduce Covid-19 infections will be in vain because of the deteriorating political situation.”
The Lembah Jaya assemblyman questioned whether this is the right time for Umno to play up political issues.
"Where are their feelings, are they being insensitive?
“The government is trying to bring in the Covid-19 vaccine as a priority to ensure the safety of the people and contain the pandemic, so that the economy can regenerate itself.
“The country’s key leaders are trying to help the people.
“Yang di-Pertuan Agong Al-Sultan Abdullah Ri’ayatuddin Al-Mustafa Billah Shah and Raja Permaisuri Agong Tunku Azizah Aminah Maimunah Iskandariah went to witness the flooding on the East Coast Highway and met evacuees at a relief centre in Maran.
“Prime Minister Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin went down to the ground to visit flood victims in the states involved.
“The question remains, is this the right time for the other side to play up political issues?
“It is clear that Umno is increasingly desperate to gain power so that it can claim positions in the government, and is willing to work with the opposition,” she said, calling on the people to reject the party. – The Vibes, January 6, 2021
