FORMER prime minister Datuk Seri Najib Razak’s conditional house-arrest arrangement has yet to take effect as he has not paid the RM50 million fine required under the pardon, Attorney-General Tan Sri Mohd Dusuki Mokhtar said today.
Dusuki said that Najib’s family had yet to make the payment as of yesterday and that it must be settled at the Kuala Lumpur High Court Registrar’s Office, where the case originated and was tried.
“As of now (yesterday), Datuk Seri Najib’s family has not paid the fine. The payment must be settled at the Kuala Lumpur High Court Registrar’s Office because the case originated and was tried there.
“After the payment is made, I cannot say precisely when Datuk Seri Najib will be brought home. It may take some time,” he said.
Dusuki said the RM50 million amount was subject to the prerogative powers of the Yang di-Pertuan Agong, Sultan Ibrahim, under Article 42 of the Federal Constitution.
“The Prisons Department will set out in detail all the conditions for Datuk Seri Najib’s release under house arrest,” he said.
On Friday, Sultan Ibrahim granted Najib a conditional pardon allowing him to serve the remainder of his prison sentence under house arrest until Aug 23, 2028, subject to payment of the RM50 million fine.
Najib is currently serving his sentence over offences involving SRC International Sdn Bhd funds. His separate 1Malaysia Development Berhad (1MDB) case remains before the Court of Appeal. -September 21, 2026
