PERIKATAN Nasional (PN) says it will take immediate legal action to challenge the Registrar of Societies (RoS) action against the coalition, while raising the possibility that the move was driven by political pressure.
PN secretary-general Datuk Seri Takiyuddin Hassan said the coalition had received a notice under subsection 13(2) of the Societies Act 1966 on Sept 22, giving it 30 days to show cause why its registration should not be cancelled.
PN also received an order under subsection 13(2A) of the Act on Sept 23 suspending all its activities until further notice.
Takiyuddin said PN took note of the RoS decision but disagreed with its basis and was taking immediate steps through the available legal processes to defend the coalition's objectives and political agenda.
“PN does not rule out the possibility that the action against PN is the result of a mala fide agenda and political pressure that victimises PN by parties from within and outside PN,” he said in a statement.
The proposed cancellation is linked to a complaint lodged by Parti Pribumi Bersatu Malaysia (Bersatu) over a PN meeting held on July 16, 2026. RoS said the complaint also concerned Bersatu's membership in the coalition.
Takiyuddin said both the notice and suspension order were served on PN on Sept 22 and 23 respectively, coinciding with the announcement and dissolution of the Melaka State Legislative Assembly ahead of the state election.
RoS, however, clarified that the notice was not a decision to cancel PN's registration but was issued to give the coalition an opportunity to explain the complaint against it. The department said the suspension order took effect on Sept 23.
Takiyuddin urged PN members and supporters to remain calm, saying the matter was being handled through the available channels.
He said PN would provide the public with relevant information and documents transparently and update them on developments from time to time.
PN has also issued an immediate gag order prohibiting anyone from making statements on behalf of the coalition, except its chairman and secretary-general. - September 24, 2026
