A 15-YEAR-OLD boy who fatally stabbed his 16-year-old schoolmate at a school in Bandar Utama last year was found to have been of unsound mind when he committed the offence, leading the High Court to acquit him of murder.
In its grounds of judgment, Shah Alam High Court judge Adlin Abdul Majid said the teenager had followed the victim into a girls’ toilet after seeing her heading there before confronting her with a knife.
The teenager then forced the victim into the second cubicle, locked the door and told her that he liked her, the judgment said.
“The victim tried to resist and wanted to leave the cubicle, but the teenager pushed her back inside and began stabbing her,” it said.
A post-mortem report dated Dec 22, 2025, prepared by forensic pathology specialist Dr Koo Zhao Peng of Universiti Malaya Medical Centre recorded between 180 and 200 stab and slash wounds across various parts of the victim’s body.
The victim was pronounced dead inside the second cubicle from multiple stab wounds to the neck and chest.
“The injuries that caused the victim’s death were inflicted by the teenager using a knife measuring about 30 centimetres, with the words ‘Leatherneck SF’ engraved on its blade,” the judgment said.
On Sept 14, the court acquitted and discharged the teenager of the murder charge after finding that he was of unsound mind at the time of the incident on Oct 14 last year.
The court ordered him to be detained and undergo treatment at Hospital Bahagia Ulu Kinta, Perak, with the consent of the Sultan of Selangor.
Defence lawyer Kitson Foong said the court found that the defence had established the requirements under Section 84 of the Penal Code for an insanity defence, including unsoundness of mind from both medical and legal perspectives. - September 23, 2026
