FOUR people were killed after the Perodua Viva they were travelling in crashed into a parked lorry, triggering a chain-reaction collision involving three other vehicles along Jalan Sepanggar near Taman Jaya Diri, Sepanggar, early today.
The 2.10am crash caused the lorry to be pushed forward into three other vehicles parked nearby.
Three of the victims were identified as Ryanniel Robin, 23; Nicholas Thomas, 24; and Axelord Nigel Alexander, 21. The identity of the fourth victim has yet to be established.
Acting Kota Kinabalu Fire and Rescue Station chief Assistant Fire Superintendent Mohd Hannis Moktar said the department received an emergency call at 2.37am.
He said firefighters found all four victims trapped inside the Perodua Viva upon arriving at the scene.
“Firefighters used special equipment to extricate all four victims from the vehicle.
“All the victims were then handed over to the police for further action,” he said when contacted.
Mohd Hannis said all four victims were pronounced dead at the scene before their bodies were taken to Queen Elizabeth Hospital for further action.
He said the operation ended at 3.55am after firefighters ensured the scene was safe.
Traffic police were at the scene to investigate the cause of the crash, while personnel from the Kota Kinabalu Civil Defence Force (APM) also assisted. - September 27, 2026
