THE Government will accord Tun Dr Siti Hasmah Mohd Ali a state funeral befitting a national dignitary following her death at the National Heart Institute (IJN) this morning.
In a statement today, Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim said he directed the Chief Secretary to the Government and the Chief of Defence Forces to assist with the funeral arrangements and accord Dr Siti Hasmah the appropriate state funeral honours.
Anwar also conveyed his condolences to Dr Siti Hasmah’s husband, former prime minister Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamad, and their family over the loss.
He said the nation would continue to remember Dr Siti Hasmah as a motherly figure and honour her contributions to the country.
“My thoughts and prayers are with Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamad and the entire family as they face this loss,” he said.
Anwar also prayed for Allah to forgive Dr Siti Hasmah’s shortcomings, accept her good deeds and place her among the believers.
