HAZE has intensified across Peninsular Malaysia, with 33 areas nationwide recording unhealthy Air Pollutant Index (API) readings as of 8am today, up from 31 areas the previous day.
The latest readings from the Air Pollutant Index Management System (APIMS) showed Johan Setia in Selangor recording the highest API nationwide at 176, followed by Cheras in Kuala Lumpur at 173, Nilai in Negeri Sembilan at 171 and Shah Alam in Selangor at 170.
The deterioration marks a shift from recent days, when Sarawak accounted for most of the areas recording unhealthy air quality.
Other areas with unhealthy readings included Pasir Gudang in Johor (169), Batu Muda in Kuala Lumpur (166), Putrajaya (165), Larkin in Johor (165), Seremban in Negeri Sembilan (164), Klang in Selangor (163), Indera Mahkota and Balok Baru in Kuantan, Pahang (163 each), Petaling Jaya in Selangor (161) and Banting in Selangor (160).
Bandaraya Melaka, Kota Tinggi in Johor and Bukit Rambai in Melaka recorded 160, while Kuala Terengganu recorded 157, Port Dickson 156, Pengerang 155, Seri Manjung and Kuala Selangor 154 each, and Batu Pahat 154.
Rompin and Paka recorded 152 each, Tangkak 152, Tanjung Malim 146, IPD Serian in Sarawak 140, Alor Gajah 136, Jerantut 132, Kluang 131 and Segamat 115.
Meanwhile, 33 areas recorded moderate API readings, while two areas remained at the good level.
Limbang and ILP Miri in Sarawak recorded good readings of 42 and 31 respectively.
Under the API classification, readings of zero to 50 indicate good air quality, 51 to 100 moderate, 101 to 200 unhealthy, 201 to 300 very unhealthy and above 300 hazardous.
API data is released hourly based on readings from 68 air-quality monitoring stations nationwide. - September 30, 2026
