MOF: Diesel prices drop as global fuel supply recovers
Unsubsidised diesel will fall 15 sen to RM5.27 a litre from Oct 1, the biggest cut among the latest fuel-price reductions - September 30, 2026

UNSUBSIDISED diesel will see the biggest price cut this week, falling 15 sen a litre to RM5.27 from Oct 1 as global crude and refined fuel supplies show signs of recovery, while subsidised motorists remain protected from the latest market movements.

The Ministry of Finance (MOF) said unsubsidised RON97 and RON95 would each fall by five sen to RM5.00 and RM4.52 a litre respectively for the Oct 1 to 7 period.

The diesel reduction is the sharpest of the three, bringing the unsubsidised price down from RM5.42 a litre.

For Malaysian consumers eligible for targeted subsidies, however, the latest global price movements will not affect pump prices.

BUDI MADANI RON95 recipients will continue paying RM1.99 a litre, against the unsubsidised price of RM4.52, with the government absorbing RM2.53 a litre, or 56% of the market price.

BUDI MADANI Diesel recipients will continue paying RM2.10 a litre against the unsubsidised price of RM5.27, with the government absorbing RM3.17 a litre, equivalent to 60% of the market price.

The ministry said eligible Malaysians could continue buying subsidised RON95 and diesel using their MyKad, subject to monthly eligibility limits.

The reductions under the Automatic Pricing Mechanism (APM) were attributed to a moderation in average global crude oil prices following the resumption of operations of Saudi Arabia’s East-West pipeline.

Refined petroleum supplies in Asia have also improved, with China’s refined petroleum exports estimated at more than four million tonnes in September, compared with a monthly average of about three million tonnes last year.

The higher supply has helped ease some pressure on regional petroleum product prices, although the recovery remains uneven.

A major refinery in Perm, Russia, has also been forced to halt operations following a Ukrainian drone attack, further restricting Russian diesel supplies to international markets.

The ministry warned that fuel-price volatility could persist as long as the conflict between the United States and Iran remains unresolved, with any fresh attacks in West Asia potentially pushing crude and refined-product prices higher again.

It said domestic fuel supplies remained sufficient but urged consumers to use fuel prudently, including by planning journeys more efficiently and reducing unnecessary travel.

The government also said the recovery of global refining capacity would remain important in easing petroleum price pressures in the medium term. - September 30, 2026
