PAKATAN Harapan (PH) is expected to announce its candidates for the 16th Melaka State Election within the next fortnight, PH Election Director Datuk Seri Amirudin Shari confirmed.

According to Amirudin, PH has been conducting thorough preparations over the past two months in readiness for the state poll.

"Preparations have been ongoing for the past two months; all engagement processes with election machinery and teams are underway," Amirudin stated.

"I believe the PH machinery is already moving and ready. It is only the alignment of understanding with other parties that remains in process, that is all," he said.

"We only need to announce the candidates. God willing, in the near future, within a week or two, we will announce them," he added.

He made the comments during a press conference following the launch of the RM1,500 TAWAS Benefit Handover Programme at the KSL Convention Centre in Klang today.

At the same time, Amirudin noted that PH remains open to discussions should room for negotiations remain available.

"Otherwise, we are also prepared to contest based on our existing capabilities and understanding," he observed.

"We are looking at that possibility. Perhaps within next week or two weeks from now, we will see. Political parties function like that sometimes," he said.

He explained that the current political landscape remains highly fluid, with parties actively seeking the best partnerships to secure optimal election outcomes.

"This trial-and-test process is happening across the board. Some succeed, others do not," he remarked.

"However, we continuously present our offer to the electorate based on what we have proven at the state level and our track record of achievements," he added.

However, Amirudin declined to comment on PAS's position regarding a potential alliance with Barisan Nasional (BN).

"Yesterday, they reported it was at 90 per cent, with 10 per cent remaining; anything can happen. I do not wish to interfere in their matters. Let them make their own decisions," he said.

Melaka Chief Minister Datuk Seri Ab Rauf Yusoh previously announced the dissolution of the Melaka State Legislative Assembly effective 23 September 2026 to pave the way for the 16th Melaka State Election.

The dissolution was formally consented to by the Yang di-Pertua Negeri of Melaka, Tun Mohd Ali Mohd Rustam. - October 3, 2026
