The quake poses no tsunami threat to Malaysia following early morning seismic activity - October 4, 2026

A STRONG earthquake measuring 6.0 on the Richter scale struck the Sumbawa region in Indonesia at 6.55 am today.

In a statement posted on Facebook, the Malaysian Meteorological Department (MetMalaysia) confirmed that the epicenter of the quake was recorded at coordinates 9.7 degrees South and 118.9 degrees East.

According to MetMalaysia, the seismic event occurred at a depth of 87 kilometres, located approximately 140 kilometres south of Bima, Indonesia.

The agency assured the public that the tremor presents no tsunami threat to Malaysia. - October 4, 2026
