THE government’s proposed tightening of contractor selection criteria and performance evaluations to curb delayed and “sick” government projects will come under scrutiny in the Dewan Rakyat today.

Datuk Mohd Suhaimi Abdullah (PN-Langkawi) is scheduled to ask the Works Minister about proactive measures to address weaknesses in contractor management and financial capacity, as well as new mechanisms being introduced to improve project delivery.

The question comes as the government seeks to address recurring delays in public projects and strengthen accountability in the management of government contracts.

According to the Parliament’s Order Paper, the issue is among several matters to be raised during the oral question-and-answer session.

Rodiyah Sapiee (GPS-Batang Sadong) will ask the Women, Family and Community Development Minister about the latest status of the proposed Elderly Care Bill and the comprehensive social protection mechanisms being planned to safeguard senior citizens as Malaysia moves towards becoming an ageing nation.

Education readiness will also be raised, with Datuk Seri Aminuddin Harun (PH-Port Dickson) scheduled to ask the Education Minister about preparations to accommodate the simultaneous entry of six- and seven-year-olds into Year One for the 2027 school session.

Onn Abu Bakar (PH-Batu Pahat) will meanwhile seek an update from the Communications Minister on government efforts to reacquire ownership rights, copyrights and management of films by legendary artist Tan Sri P. Ramlee for preservation as national heritage assets.

Following the question-and-answer session, the House is scheduled to consider a motion tabled by the Minister in the Prime Minister’s Department on the Auditor-General’s Report (LKAN) 2/2026, which was tabled last Monday.

The motion calls on relevant ministries, departments and agencies to objectively review the audit findings and recommendations to strengthen governance, integrity and public fund management.

The sitting is also scheduled to proceed with the second reading of the Food (Amendment) Bill 2026, to be tabled by the Health Minister.

The Third Meeting of the Fifth Session of the 15th Parliament, which began last Monday, is scheduled to sit for 37 days until Dec 8. - October 7, 2026
