KOTA BARU – Kelantan police said it will issue compounds to individuals found deliberately gathering in flood-affected areas without observing physical distancing and not wearing face masks.
State police chief Datuk Shafien Mamat said no more warnings would be given, and RM1,000 fines would be issued to individuals not complying with standard operating procedures.
“Currently, we are still taking action under the Prevention and Control of Infectious Diseases Act 1988 (Act 342).
“Yesterday, police issued three compounds to individuals caught playing in the floodwaters at Tambatan Diraja after they ignored the advice and warnings given,” he told reporters after inspecting several areas, including Jalan Pantai Cahaya Bulan-Kg Tikat here today.
Shafien said policemen would be mobilised to public places to prevent people from gathering and playing in the floodwaters.
He also said police found some flood victims refusing to immediately be evacuated to relief centres although their homes were inundated, making it difficult for rescue teams.
“Flood victims should not delay evacuation because when their homes are flooded, it will be difficult to render assistance,” he added.
As at 3pm, Kelantan has recorded 5,894 flood victims. – Bernama, January 7, 2021
