THE government has allocated 70,000 free helmets for distribution nationwide under Budget 2026 as part of efforts to improve motorcycle safety and reduce serious injuries in road accidents.

Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim said the initiative, implemented by the Road Transport Department (JPJ) under the Transport Ministry, was aimed at replacing old or non-compliant helmets with new ones that meet safety standards.

Anwar highlighted the initiative when he met several recipients of the free helmets while attending the 2026 Malaysian Motorcycle Grand Prix at the Sepang International Circuit (SIC) on Sunday.

He urged recipients to wear their helmets properly and ensure the straps were securely fastened whenever riding.

"It was a pleasure chatting with several recipients of the free helmets under the Transport Ministry initiative implemented by JPJ.

"My advice is to make sure you wear the helmet and fasten it securely. Leave home safely and make sure you return safely. New helmet, renewed spirit!" he said in a post on X.

The helmet replacement initiative is intended to reduce the risk of serious injuries by ensuring motorcyclists use helmets that comply with safety standards. - November 2, 2026
