SEREMBAN – The Malaysian Maritime Enforcement Agency (MMEA) detained a Mongolian-registered merchant ship for anchoring without permission 3.9 nautical miles west of Pulau Arang-Arang in Port Dickson yesterday.
The agency’s Melaka/Negri Sembilan director, Capt Haris Fadzillah Abdullah, said MV Bistari was detained at 11.40am under Op Benteng after it failed to provide proof of permission to anchor from the Maritime Department.
“MV Bistari is manned by seven crew, including its captain, all of whom are Indonesian nationals aged 21 to 53. They possess valid identification documents,” he said in a statement today.
“The cargo ship loaded with goods is believed to be on its way from Penang to Pekan Baru, Indonesia.”
He said the crew members have been brought to the Melaka/Negri Sembilan Maritime Department headquarters for further action, and that the case is being investigated under the Merchant Shipping Ordinance 1952. – Bernama, January 8, 2021
