KUALA LUMPUR – The federal and state governments must work together to ensure flood evacuees’ welfare beyond the provision of essential items, said Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin.
The prime minister said efforts to assist victims should continue even after they leave relief centres for home.
“The same goes for other aspects such as repairing their damaged homes. This is to ensure that victims do not remain in a state of trauma due to the disaster,” he said in a Facebook post.
Muhyiddin, who inspected the flood situation and visited victims at two relief centres in Pahang yesterday, said district offices, local authorities, and state and federal government agencies have been urged to immediately help repair flood-damaged infrastructure, such as roads, mosques and schools.
“Alhamdulillah, (the flood evacuees) were all fine, and some thanked the government for providing relief centres with adequate facilities, as well as staff who always ensure that the standard operating procedure is observed to prevent the spread of Covid-19.”
He said he has instructed the authorities to provide two tents to each family with more than six members, to allow them to be more comfortable.
During his visit to the relief centres, Muhyiddin was accompanied by Pahang Menteri Besar Datuk Seri Wan Rosdy Wan Ismail and National Disaster Management Agency director-general Datuk Dr Aminuddin Hassim. – Bernama, January 11, 2021
