GEORGETOWN – The Penang government has called on its citizens to strictly adhere to standard operating procedures (SOPs) in conjunction with Ponggal Day celebrations today.

Chief Minister Chow Kon Yeow said that as a state that prioritizes the principles of “Efficiency, Accountability and Transparency”, Penang has not sidelined any race for more than a decade.

“In fact, as a welfare state, all iSejahtera assistance programmes have continued with an allocation of RM50 million for this year.

“Similarly, the allocation of RM1.5 million to the Penang Hindu Endowment Board (HEB) (continues) to continue the development of the Indian community here,” he said in a message in conjunction with Ponggal.

Like boiling milk overflowing from pots, Chow hopes that the people of Penang will also continue to support the Penang2030 Vision, which is to strive towards a Smart and Green State Based on the National Inspiration Family.

Despite the Covid-19 pandemic, he is thankful that Penang is still peaceful and prosperous, and living in harmony.

“Like ‘Thai piranthal vazhi pirakkum’, which means the beginning of a new month that brings happiness, let us all increase our commitment by strengthening the understanding and unity among us so that its sweetness can be enjoyed together”.
