KUALA LUMPUR – Kelantan will now be placed under the stricter movement control order (MCO), following a spike in Covid-19 cases over the past week, according to Senior Minister Datuk Seri Ismail Sabri Yaakob.
The announcement comes just three days after the more lenient conditional MCO was imposed on the state, and five others, and will take effect beginning tomorrow (January 16) until January 26.
Ismail noted that Kelantan now has 1,649 cumulative cases, of which 891 are still active, while the daily infections have also increased to an average of between 80 and 100 in recent days.
“The Health Ministry confirmed that 90% of Kelantan districts are now either categorised as red or orange zones.
“Based on the ministry’s advice and risk assessment, the National Security Council (NSC) meeting today has decided to implement MCO in the whole of Kelantan from January 16 to 26,” he said in a media briefing today.
Kelantan now joins Penang, Selangor, the Federal Territories (Kuala Lumpur, Putrajaya and Labuan), Melaka, Johor, and Sabah under MCO. – The Vibes, January 15, 2021
