KUALA LUMPUR – Restaurants at the Sime Darby Convention Centre (SDCC) are the latest to be forced to close due to the impact of the Covid-19 pandemic.

In a notice posted on its Facebook page yesterday, SDCC announced the permanent closure of its Halia, East Café and China Treasures outlets following 14 years of operations.

“The ongoing global health crisis has impacted many lives and livelihoods, and SDCC is no exception.

“We are incredibly grateful to our loyal customers, and would like to thank you for your patronage all these years.

"It has been an honour and great pleasure serving you.”

Despite the restaurant closures, SDCC said the venue remains available for weddings, meetings and events.

Its management was unreachable for comment on how many staff are affected.

It was reported that SDCC’s parent company, Sime Darby Property, declared a loss of RM15.77 million in the first half of 2020, almost double its losses in the same period the previous year.

The losses were mainly attributed to the closure of the Tournament Players Club Kuala Lumpur and the convention centre itself during the movement control order last year. – The Vibes, January 16, 2021
