KOTA BARU – Those who are self-employed in Kelantan and need to travel to seek daily jobs can now apply for a one-time travel permit at the nearest police station, said Kelantan police chief Datuk Shafien Mamat.
He said the one-time permit will be issued for the duration of the movement control order (MCO) enforcement in the state from today until January 26.
“(Self-employed persons) don’t have to obtain permits every time they need to go out for work, like when the MCO was enforced the first time. Now, they only have to apply once, and the permit can be used until the end of the MCO.
“To apply for the permit, they need to submit documents to confirm that they are self-employed. Those eligible include traders and those who perform odd jobs,” he told reporters after observing the situation at a roadblock in Pasir Pekan near here last night.
He said this is one of the reforms done by the police to facilitate movement for those who need to travel during the MCO.
For emergencies, Shafien said the travel permit can be used at police roadblock en route to one’s destination.
“However, they have to submit proof of reason for the movement,” he added.
Previously, he said, permission to travel in emergencies had to be obtained from the police station.
Shafien also said that a total of 448 police, armed forces, and Volunteers’ Department of Malaysia (Rela) personnel are stationed at 19 roadblocks mounted at the borders of 10 districts in the state.
“There are some areas in which we have set up two or three roadblocks, such as in Pasir Puteh, because of the presence of rat routes,” he added.
Yesterday, the government announced the enforcement of MCO in Kelantan from today to January 26 following the sharp increase in Covid-19 cases in the state. – Bernama, January 16, 2021
