KUALA LUMPUR – Malaysia registered 3,339 fresh cases of Covid-19 today, lower than yesterday’s highest daily tally of 4,029, the Health Ministry said.
The country also saw seven deaths bringing the death toll to 601 cases.
The new cases today bring the cumulative number to 158,424.
A total of 2,676 recoveries were also recorded, pushing the total to 120,051.
The ministry also said 240 cases were under intensive care, with 93 requiring ventilators.
Selangor's cases made up for more than a third of reported infections today with 1,314 cases, followed by Sabah (393), Johor (362), and Negri Sembilan (236).
Penang recorded 120 cases, followed by Kelantan (114), Perak (107), Kedah (96), Pahang (61), Sarawak (62), Melaka (60), Putrajaya (23), Labuan (22), Terengganu (22), and Perlis (13).
Dr Noor Hisham said 159 new cases today were from clusters involving lock-ups, immigration detention centres, and prisons. They were the Jalan Harapan prison cluster (94 cases), DTI Sepang 2 (53 cases), Tembok Gajah (6), Telok Mas (3), Tembok Kemus (2), and Tembok Mempaga (1).
Selangor recorded three deaths, all of them women aged between 32 and 78, while Johor saw two deaths, a man and woman aged 67 and 61 respectively.
Negeri Sembilan registered the death of a 62-year-old man, and Kedah saw the death of a 93-year-old man.
Dr Noor Hisham said the country has seen 651 clusters to date, including 10 new clusters today. The total number of clusters that have ended is 359, including three clusters comprising the Bayam Indah, Jesselton construction site and Andalas clusters.
He said there were currently 292 active clusters, while 86 clusters saw new cases with the highest being the Bina Lebuh site cluster (253 cases), Jalan Rantau-Siliau cluster (96 cases), and Jalan Harapan prison cluster (94 cases).
The two new clusters reported in Selangor – the DTI Sepang 2 cluster and the Jalan Pandan Indah clusters – saw 80 and 77 new cases respectively.
Sabah also registered two clusters – Taman Ikan Jinak in Tuaran and Kota Belud, as well as Jalan Mawila in Kota Kinabalu – which each saw 21 and 15 cases.
Johor’s sole new cluster, named Jalan Perak in Johor Baru, recorded 35 cases, while the Jalan Yap construction site cluster in Titiwangsa, Kuala Lumpur recorded 21 cases.
In Maran and Temerloh, Pahang, the Health Ministry detected the Rantau Lada cluster with 24 cases, while Labuan registered the Jalan Mohammed Salleh cluster involving 12 cases.
Melaka recorded one new cluster, the Pantai Peringgit cluster covering its central district and Jasin, with 24 cases. – The Vibes, January 17, 2021
