KUALA LUMPUR – A motorist who was so absorbed using his mobile phone that he crashed into a police roadblock was arrested in Jalan Klang Lama here yesterday.

Brickfields district police chief Anuar Omar said the 40-year-old man’s Perodua Myvi rammed into a “police inspection” barrier in the 5.50pm incident.

He was subsequently arrested, and the car, seized.

“The suspect admitted that he was being careless by using his handphone while driving. He also said he was on his way to buy food,’’ said Anuar in a statement today.

He said the driver does not have previous records, and tested negative for drugs.

He is being investigated under Section 26(2) of the Police Act 1967 for not stopping at a roadblock, an offence punishable with a jail term of up to a year, or a maximum fine of RM1,000, or both, upon conviction. – Bernama, January 18, 2021
