KUALA LUMPUR – Chief Secretary to the Government Tan Sri Mohd Zuki Ali today reminded the country’s 1.6 million civil servants that stern action will be taken against them if they violate the standard operating procedures under the movement control order (MCO).
The legal action taken applies to all those who flout the rules, including government employees, he told Bernama in an interview at his office in Putrajaya recently.
“If they violate the (MCO) procedures, they will be punished. Hence, a reminder to civil servants – if they are not ready to be prosecuted, then they must comply with the MCO SOPs.”
He stressed that every decision made and implemented by Putrajaya is aimed at breaking the Covid-19 chain of transmission, especially given the increase in cases recently.
Congress of the Union of Employees in the Public and Civil Service president Adnan Mat was earlier reported as saying current and retired civil servants are at risk of losing their privileges if they are found guilty of violating the MCO.
The lockdown is in force in seven states, namely Penang, Selangor, the Federal Territories, Melaka, Johor, Sabah and Kelantan, until January 26.
It has also been imposed in three Sarawak districts, namely Sibu, Selangau and Kanowit, from January 16 to 29. – Bernama, January 18, 2021
