KUALA LUMPUR – In a significant restructuring, the Federal Territories Ministry has been converted to a department under the purview of the Prime Minister’s Department, said Chief Secretary to the Government Tan Sri Mohd Zuki Ali.

In a Facebook post today, Zuki said that the newly coined Federal Territories Department is spearheaded by Datuk Seri Rosida Jaafar.

The post was made after Zuki had attended a briefing by the department for Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim at the Kuala Lumpur City Hall headquarters earlier in the day.

“The briefing to the prime minister regarding the latest administrative structure of the Federal Territories Department was delivered by (Rosida) as the department’s director-general,” he said.

He added that he had also accompanied Anwar to a Federal Territories Interaction Council meeting.

“The council is a platform between the top authorities of the Federal Territories Department and MPs of the Federal Territories to discuss vital issues and proposed implementation of development policies for citizens, especially those in the Federal Territories,” he said.

The Federal Territories in Malaysia consist of Kuala Lumpur, Putrajaya, and Labuan.

Anwar’s cabinet line-up, announced on December 2, lacked a Federal Territories minister.

The Prime Minister’s Office had then said that the relevant minister would be announced later.

The ministry, established in 1979, was last led by Datuk Seri Shahidan Kassim as minister prior to the dissolution of Parliament on October 10. – The Vibes, December 22, 2022
