A PRIVATE college student has been sentenced to 12 months in prison and fined RM13,800 after admitting to six offences involving threats and vandalism linked to an illegal moneylending syndicate.

Muhammad Taufiq Jamal Ab Nasir, 24, pleaded guilty to the charges in two separate Magistrates’ Courts in Johor Bharu today, involving criminal intimidation and damage to vehicles and property.

Before Magistrate Nurzihan Abd Rehman, he was sentenced to one year in prison for threatening a man through an anonymous note left at Jalan Limau Manis, Kampung Pasir, at about 12.45am on Oct 5.

He also received a 10-month jail sentence for splashing red paint on a company van at the same location at about 4.15am the following day, causing RM120 in losses.

In a separate proceeding before Magistrate Atifah Hazimah Wahab, Muhammad Taufiq was fined RM4,000 for smashing the windscreen of a car belonging to Low Hui Feng, 41, in Taman Nusa Jaya Mas, Skudai, on Sept 19.

He was fined a further RM2,500 for splashing red paint on a house in Jalan Setia 2/9, Taman Setia Indah, on Oct 5.

He also admitted to threatening Seow Chee Keong, 45, and Muhammad Syazwi Azri Mohd Norzehan, 32, through anonymous communications at Taman Mutiara Rini and Taman Universiti, Skudai, on Sept 28 and Oct 2 respectively.

The two intimidation charges attracted fines of RM3,800 and RM3,500 respectively. The court ordered 10 months’ imprisonment for each charge in default of payment.

The offences were prosecuted under Sections 507 and 427 of the Penal Code, covering criminal intimidation through anonymous communication and mischief.
