SINGAPORE – A 66-year-old woman from Malaysia is one of two new cases of locally transmitted Covid-19 infections in Singapore.
In its full data released yesterday, the republic’s Health Ministry said the elderly, labelled as case 59395, is a long-term visit pass holder, and has been residing here since January last year.
It said she is a retiree, who is a family member of case 59365 – a 44-year-old Singaporean man, who works as an administrative officer for the Singapore Police Force. He was confirmed to have been infected with Covid-19 on January 16.
It added that the woman developed acute respiratory infection symptoms and diarrhoea on January 9, and a loss of taste on January 14, but had not sought medical treatment.
As she had been identified as a close contact of case 59365, the woman was contacted by the ministry on January 16, and later tested for Covid-19 when she reported the symptoms.
The ministry said her test result came back positive for the virus the next day, and she was brought to Tan Tock Seng Hospital in an ambulance.
“Her serological test result has come back positive. Together with her Covid-19 symptoms, this indicates a likely recent infection, with onset on January 9.”
She is one of the cases linked to the case 59280 cluster, which has six confirmed cases.
Case 59280, reported on January 14, involves a 32-year-old Singaporean man, who works as a para-veterinarian for the Singapore Police Force. The man is a colleague of case 59365.
Meanwhile, another Malaysian, a 30-year-old man, is one of 12 imported cases reported in the republic yesterday.
Labelled as case 59390, the work permit holder is asymptomatic and had arrived from Malaysia. – Bernama, January 19, 2021
