KOTA KINABALU – Police have opened an investigation paper against eight individuals seen in a viral video drinking beer at a quarantine centre here.

Kota Kinabalu police chief Habibi Majinji said two women and six men believed to be in the video have been identified and will be called for questioning today.

“Let us probe the matter first. We are investigating the case under Section 504 of the Penal Code. We plan to call all of them today,” he said during a visit to the Sabah College Secondary School in conjunction with the first day of the school reopening here.

Section 504 of the Penal Code covers intentional insult with intent to provoke a breach of peace.

Sabah Covid-19 spokesman Datuk Seri Masidi Manjun had recently said the Sabah Health Department is looking into the beer drinking and merrymaking session, believed to have taken place at the Likas Sports Complex quarantine centre.

Meanwhile, Kota Kinabalu police said the body of an unidentified woman with swollen marks on the face and eye area was found behind a hotel near Bandaran Berjaya here.

Habibi said police received a call about 8pm on the discovery of a dead woman’s body in the bushes near a water tank behind the hotel.

“We believe the woman may not be a local as there is a BCG vaccine mark on her arm, and no identification papers were found on the body.

“We hope those who may have lost a female family member in her 30s can come forward to identify the body.

“For now, the body of the woman is at the hospital for a post-mortem. We are hoping to get more details over the cause of death. So far, we are ruling the case as sudden death until the forensic results say otherwise. The post-mortem results will be out in the next few days,” said Habibi, adding that the woman was found fully clothed wearing a T-shirt and long pants.

Habibi added the police will question residents in Bandaran Berjaya. – The Vibes, January 20, 2021
