KANGAR – All group activities at mosques and surau in Perlis, including congregational prayers, will be halted during the movement control order (MCO) that takes effect on Friday.

Raja Muda of Perlis Tuanku Syed Faizuddin Putra Jamalullail, in a statement issued by the Perlis Islamic Religious and Malay Customs Council today, said the decision was made after the matter was consented to by Raja of Perlis Tuanku Syed Sirajuddin Putra Jamalullail.

“The decision was also made following advice from the Health Ministry in view of the latest developments related to Covid-19 and reimplementation of the MCO in the state.

“Friday prayers are allowed, but the number of people in the congregation is subject to the capacity of the mosques, but not fewer than three.”

He said only five mosque committee members are allowed to pray at a time for the five daily obligatory prayers.

All mosques and surau must ensure the standard operating procedure is observed, including frequent disinfection works, he said. – Bernama, January 20, 2021
