KUALA LUMPUR – Malaysian law graduates with British degrees who intend to practice law in Malaysia will be sitting for the Certificate of Legal Practice (CLP) examinations on March 29.
CLP candidates will be expected to sit for five examinations held over five days, with the last paper held on April 8.
The examinations, which were supposed to be conducted in the month of July, were postponed to December due to the movement control order.
However, it was postponed once again to March 2021 by the Legal Profession Qualifying Board, which oversees this examination.
This was due to the third wave of the pandemic in the final quarter of 2021.
Students who gave up their jobs to study for the exams prior to the postponements were adversely affected financially.
The announcement on the final exam schedule was published on January 16 on its website.
The CLP examinations enable Malaysians who have studied law in Britain, Australia, and New Zealand to enter legal practice locally.
Law graduates from local public universities are not required to sit for the examinations and are allowed to perform chambering – a form of internship before the candidate is called to the bar and certified as a lawyer. – The Vibes, January 20, 2021
