Negri police chief confirms 8 FRU officers detained by Perhilitan

SEREMBAN – Negri Sembilan police chief Datuk Mohamad Mat Yusop has confirmed that eight personnel from the Federal Reserve Unit’s (FRU) Seremban branch, including an inspector, were detained by the Wildlife and National Parks Department (Perhilitan) on Sunday.

The eight, aged between 33 and 47, were detained on suspicion of possessing an animal species that is protected under the Wildlife Conservation Act 2010, he told reporters here today.

“I cannot comment further… but I can confirm that we have received a report on the arrests made by Perhilitan.

“I advise not only the public, but also all police personnel in the state, against capturing, shooting and hunting protected species, which is in violation of the act.”

It was reported that the eight FRU personnel were nabbed in Kuala Pilah following an inspection by Perhilitan officers of the vehicle they were travelling in.

A plastic bag containing an animal, believed to be a lesser mouse-deer, was found in the vehicle.

The case is being investigated under the Wildlife Conservation Act.

Mohamad added that 20 roadblocks will be mounted across the state, involving the deployment of 328 cops, when the movement control order takes effect in Negri Sembilan on Friday. – Bernama, January 20, 2021
