ALOR STAR – The government has been urged to be transparent on its plan on to vaccinate the population against Covid-19, clearing public uncertainty over the matter.
Bukit Tengah assemblyman Gooi Hsiao Leung, in a statement today, said there is concern about how Putrajaya will deliver on its promise to inoculate 27 million Malaysians within a year.
“The 12-month vaccination timeline given by the prime minister is certainly very encouraging compared with the grim 18-month timeline given earlier last week.”
He said Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin’s assurance that the government’s vaccination programme is “on track” is not enough.
The programme is of huge national interest and importance, and Muhyiddin has a duty to the public to lay out in full the government’s plan to vaccinate 27 million people in just 12 months, he said.
“Details of the national vaccination programme have not been unveiled by the government.
“Has the programme been finalised and presented to the cabinet for approval? Without details, how can we be sure if the country’s vaccination programme is on track?”
The PKR leader added that the numbers provided by the government – in what little information has been made public – do not add up.
To hit the target of 27 million Malaysians vaccinated in a year, he said, there would need to be an average of 2.25 million vaccinate a month starting March.
“Do we have confirmed delivery dates and the quantities of all the vaccines we need to vaccinate 2.25 million people a month?
“The plan to vaccinate 27 million people within one year will be the biggest vaccination exercise in history to be undertaken by the Malaysian government, which will require an unparalleled and massive undertaking to set up vaccination centres all over the country.
“Muhyiddin cannot merely expect the people to place full confidence and blind hope in the government on his assurance alone that 80% of the population will be given vaccinations within a year, without any specific details.” – The Vibes, January 21, 2021
