KOTA KINABALU – Sabah must step up its efforts to secure investment prospects which are expected to bring millions of ringgit into the state.
Chief Minister Datuk Seri Hajiji Md Noor said these prospects will create over 1,500 jobs in Sabah if they are realised.
“We are now in the negotiation process; they include investments in vehicles, battery components factory, glass manufacturing, port management, and aerospace industry.
“The state government will facilitate ease of doing business and create an investor-friendly environment in the bid to spur businesses and attract more investors to Sabah.
“I will monitor the efforts of all involved to attract investors to this state. I need to see the reports from time to time so that all the plans to develop Sabah’s economy will become a reality. We want the people and the state to benefit from it,” he said.
Hajiji, who is also state finance minister said this is in line with the government’s stated commitment to give priority to the state’s economic development agenda and the implementation of the Hala Tuju Sabah Maju Jaya Development Plan 2021-2025.
He said this at a meeting with the International Trade and Industry Ministry’s (MITI) Sabah regional office entourage, led by state director Mohd Hijri Mat Rani at Seri Gaya here, yesterday.
Hajiji said he wants MITI to work closely with the state investment agencies including the newly established Sabah Economic Advisory Council to attract domestic and foreign investors to Sabah.
“Sabah has a huge potential, coupled with its strategic position in the region,” he said.
On another note, MITI revealed that the manufacturing sector in Sabah had recorded approved investments for 15 projects worth RM6.46 billion (2019) and 12 projects worth RM11.86 billion (January-September 2020) under the Malaysian Investment Development Authority (MIDA).
Sabah’s domestic and international trade volume from January to October 2020 was RM67.1 billion – RM33.9 billion in exports and RM33.1 billion in imports. – The Vibes, January 22, 2021
