KUALA LUMPUR – Bersatu has called on the public to be rational in judging the party, following the recent arrest of one of its member over suspected possession and distribution of drugs.
Party vice-president Datuk Mohd Rafiq Naizamohideen said it is unfair for any parties to link the case with Bersatu.
“The party is not involved in drugs. Only a few members. Think rationally,” he said in a Facebook post today.
In the post, he also uploaded screenshots of articles concerning Umno members who have been arrested for similar charges in the past.
“It is unfair for anyone to blame or involve Umno if a few members were involved in drugs. Similarly, when these involve Bersatu or other parties.”
His comments comes after a member of Bersatu’s Youth wing, Armada, was arrested following a raid at the Fraser Business Park in Pudu on Wednesday.
Yesterday, Kuala Lumpur police chief Datuk Saiful Azly Kamaruddin said the suspect, a businessman who had contested in the 2018 general election in Perak, was arrested after he was suspected to be distributing drugs that had been processed in his own residence.
It is learnt during the raid, police also seized 1.5kg of dried cannabis leaves, nine cannabis plants and a large amount of liquid believed to contain narcotics.
Following reports of the arrest, Armada chief Wan Ahmad Fayhsal Wan Ahmad Kamal, through a statement posted on his Twitter account, confirmed the suspect’s Bersatu membership but denied that he was a leader in Armada.
Fayhsal added that investigations into the case will be left to the police. – The Vibes, January 23, 2021
