KUALA LUMPUR – Putrajaya has ended the enhanced movement control order (EMCO) at two locations in Johor and partially ended one in Jelebu, Negeri Sembilan.
Senior Minister (Security) Datuk Seri Ismail Sabri Yaakob said in his daily Covid-19 press statement that the Johor Baru Correctional Centre and government quarters in Batu 19 Jalan Ulu Choh-Pontian, Johor Baru will end tomorrow.
“So far, the Health Ministry has completed 1,402 screenings and recorded 1,015 Covid-19 cases. The ministry confirmed that there is a downtrend in cases and the last case that was reported was on January 13.
“Based on risk assessment and advice from the Health Ministry, the government has agreed to end this EMCO on January 24 as scheduled,” said Ismail Sabri.
Meanwhile, the EMCO at the Westlite 1 and Westlite 2 workers dormitory in Senai, Johor ended today, which is earlier than the expected schedule on January 29, based on the Health Ministry’s advice.
The ministry had conducted 1,978 screenings and found 692 Covid-19 cases. However, it also recorded a downtrend in the locality and that the final 23 active cases had completed their isolation period today.
However, at the Jelebu Prison and its staff quarters in Negeri Sembilan, the Health Ministry has recommended to partially end the EMCO as there are still 49 active cases being treated at the prison.
“The Health Ministry has confirmed that there are still 49 active cases being treated at low-risk treatment centres. There are 69 close contacts still undergoing home surveillance order at the Muhasabah Transit Block.
“Based on the advice and risk assessment by the Health Ministry, the government has agreed to end the EMCO at the Jelebu Prison and its staff quarters on January 24, 2021 with the exception for the Muhasabah Transit Block which will be extended from January 25 to February 7.”
The ministry had conducted 2,775 screenings and found 908 Covid-19 cases.
Meanwhile, the compliance operation task force has arrested 504 individuals for breaching Covid-19 standard operating procedures, where 494 individuals were issued compounds and another 10 was held under remanded custody.
The offences include not wearing face masks (145), failure to provide record keeping equipment for customers (92), lack of physical distancing (77), cross districts/states without approval (60), operating without approval or beyond the approved time (37) and others (93).
The border patrol under Ops Benteng had arrested 41 illegal migrants yesterday and seized two boats/ships and three land transport vehicles. The operation also detected 155 vessels in Malaysia waters. – The Vibes, January 23, 2021
