KOTA KINABALU – All opposition MPs from Sabah are in support of opposition leader Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim’s intention to request that the Yang di-Pertuan Agong revoke the emergency proclamation imposed across Malaysia until August 1.
DAP’s Kota Kinabalu MP Chan Foong Hing said that his party and Sabah PKR have thrown their support behind Anwar’s call for MPs to write appeals to the king to state their stand on the matter.
“Pakatan Harapan (MPs) have submitted our appeal letters earlier than Warisan,” he said.
Chan said this when asked about the state DAP’s stance in response to the announcement by Warisan president Datuk Seri Mohd Shafie Apdal yesterday that all eight MPs from his party had appealed to the Agong to seek a revocation of the emergency order that was proposed by the Perikatan Nasional (PN) government.
Chan said the emergency order was secured in a sudden manner and caught everyone by surprise.
“The emergency was proclaimed immediately one day after the announcement of the MCO (movement control order), and was only meant to stop parliamentary sittings and elections during this period.”
Anwar, who is Pakatan Harapan (PH) chairman and PKR president, said on January 14 that he had written to the Agong to appeal for the emergency order to be rescinded.
He said Prime Minister Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin’s proposal for an emergency proclamation under Article 150 of the Federal Constitution was without “legitimacy”, following the decline in parliamentary support for Muhyiddin’s leadership.
Anwar yesterday said more than 114 MPs oppose the nationwide emergency order.
