GEORGE TOWN – The Narcotics Criminal Investigation room at the Northeast district police headquarters caught fire at 7.55am today.

A spokesman for the state fire operations centre said three fire engines from the Jalan Perak, Lebuh Pantai and Paya Terubong stations were deployed to the scene.

“The room on the fourth floor of the building was 40% destroyed. No victims were reported. The fire was brought under control by 8.15am,” he said in a statement.

No officers were harmed as they were not on duty, said Northeast district police chief Soffian Santong.

“I was informed that the last on-duty officer in the room came out at midnight last night.

“We do not yet know the cause of the fire. An investigation will be carried out by the Fire and Rescue Department.” – The Vibes, January 25, 2021
