KUALA LUMPUR – The Human Resources Ministry has issued 16 notices to six glovemakers for failing to adhere to occupational health and safety regulations, as well as standard operating procedures to curb the spread of Covid-19.
In Ops Glove held from January 18 to yesterday, the Occupational Safety and Health Department (DOSH) conducted checks on 105 companies, and found that six had unsatisfactory compliance levels.
The operation aims to ensure a high level of compliance to curb the spread of coronavirus at workplaces, especially in industries with a large number of employees .
In a statement today, Deputy Human Resources Minister Awang Hashim said the ministry wants to ensure that companies comply with the law on occupational health and safety.
Employers who fail to follow the notices issued could face action under the Occupational Safety and Health Act 1994 (Act 514), which carries a jail term of not more than two years, or a maximum penalty of RM50,000, or both, if found guilty.
Last year, DOSH took 232 prosecution actions and issued 583 compounds, involving a total penalty amount of RM4.9 million. – The Vibes, January 25, 2021
