KUALA LUMPUR – Malaysia registered 3,680 fresh Covid-19 cases today (January 27) and 7 new deaths, Health Director-General Tan Sri Dr Noor Hisham Abdullah said today.

The new cases bring the cumulative positive cases to 194,114 and raised the death toll to 707.

In a statement, Dr Noor Hisham said Johor is the state with the most cases today at 1,069 infections, followed by Selangor (822), Kuala Lumpur (698) and Sabah (295).

Perak has 181 cases, followed by Negri Sembilan (112), Pulau Pinang (101), Kedah (76), Sarawak (70), Terengganu (68), Melaka (63), Kelantan (60) and Pahang (42).

Putrajaya logged 19 cases while Perlis has 3 and Labuan 1.

Dr Noor Hisham said six of the new cases are imported.

The country also recorded 1,858 recoveries today, bringing the total recoveries to 151,018 cases.

Of the active cases, 314 are under intensive care, while another 122 cases required intubation.

Dr Noor Hisham also said the country has recorded 770 clusters so far, including 17 new clusters today. Of the total, 404 clusters have ended, including 7 clusters today consisting of the Desa Idaman, Hala Mutiara, Slot Berjaya, Sungai Keluang, Dialisis, Jalan Berangan Construction Site and Ikon Bintang Construction Site clusters.

He said there are currently 366 active clusters, of which 80 have recorded new cases today. The active clusters with the highest number of new cases are Parit Lanjut (521 cases), Persiaran Tecoma (157 cases) and Industri Grisek (144 cases).

Dr Noor Hisham added that 64 new cases today were related to detention centres, consisting of the Jalan Harapan Prison cluster (33 cases), Tembok Renggam (16 cases), Damai Pelangi (9 cases), DTI Sepang (2 cases), Tembok Bukit Besi (2 cases), Tembok Sungai Udang (1 case), and Jalan Sungai Jelok (1 case).

The state that saw most deaths is Selangor with 3 people succumbing to Covid-19, involving a man and woman both aged 72 and another man, aged 61. Perak saw 2 deaths involving a man and woman aged 55 and 71 respectively, and Sarawak and Sabah saw a death each, involving 2 men aged 74 and 84.

The clusters in Johor today consisted of the Parit Lanjut cluster in Muar, Johor (547 cases), Industri Grisek in Tangkak, Muar (145 cases), Jalan Trus in Johor Baru and Kluang (10), Jalan Medini in Johor Baru (13), Tengah Tiga in Kluang (9), and Pengerang Utara in Kota Tinggi (26).

The Kuala Lumpur area recorded new infections in the Persiaran Tecoma construction site cluster in Kepong (157 cases), Jalan Danau in Titiwangsa (11), Jalan Yahya in Titiwangsa (8), and Jalan Pudu in Lembah Pantai (13).

In Selangor, the new clusters found today are Jalan Mutiara, in Petaling (32 cases), Tanjung construction site in Kuala Langat (46), and Persiaran Perkilangan in Petaling and Klang (19).

Sabah saw 1 new cluster in Kota Kinabalu – the Jalan Sulaman cluster with 23 cases. In Perak, the Jalan Seri cluster in Kinta saw 17 cases, followed by the Jalan Pengkalan cluster in Kinta, Kerian, and Kampar with 41 cases.

Sarawak saw 1 cluster – the Bedayan cluster covering Serian and Samarahan, with 13 cases.

Most of the new clusters, or 15 out of the total 17, are workplace clusters while the other 2 are community-based clusters. – The Vibes, January 27, 2021
