KOTA KINABALU – Non-Sabahan federal civil servants working in the state, as well as their dependents, can now enter Sabah without applying for special permission.
However, the exemption, which has been agreed to by the state government, comes with several conditions, including having the restricted travel document or a passport.
State Local Government and Housing Minister Datuk Seri Masidi Manjun said other conditions include using these documents to obtain a stamp under Section 66(1)(d) of the Immigration Act 1959/63 at Sabah’s entry points, and producing supporting documents, such as letters confirming their posting.
“Their dependents, meanwhile, need to show proof of relationship with the government officer before entry, and are required to obtain the stamp or apply for a long-term social visit pass at the immigration office after entry,” he told the press here yesterday.
He said the exemption also applies to diplomats with the exemption order, and their dependents.
For diplomats or embassy staff who do not have the requisite passes or are entering the state for the first time, he said, they must first get entry permission from the Immigration Department chief.
As for crew members of ships unrelated to the oil and gas sector entering the state to conduct “sign-on” or “joint ship” activities, they need to attach either their identification card or passport, a letter of guarantee from the Immigration Department, and their seaman’s service book. – Bernama, January 30, 2021
