SINGAPORE – A 27-year-old Malaysian man is among 23 new asymptomatic imported Covid-19 cases reported in Singapore yesterday, said the republic’s Health Ministry.
In its report last night, the ministry said the patient, a work permit holder, arrived from his home country.
Singapore yesterday logged 24 new imported cases, with only one exhibiting symptoms.
The other cases came from India, Indonesia, Myanmar, Spain, the Philippines, the United Arab Emirates and Ukraine.
No local transmission was reported.
The latest infections take the country’s Covid-19 tally to 59,449.
The ministry said it has completed a special screening of staff who have been working from December 31 last year at Jewel Changi Airport, as well as at the shops and eateries at Terminal 3.
The exercise was conducted as a precautionary measure after the National Public Health Laboratory revealed that three previously reported coronavirus cases tested positive for the B117 variant, and may be linked.
“In total, 409 staff were tested, and all the results have returned negative for Covid-19.”
It was reported that 25 cases of the B117 variant were detected in Singapore up to Tuesday, five of which are community cases and the rest imported from Europe.
The B117 strain, first detected in the United Kingdom, is said to be deadlier. – Bernama, January 30, 2021
