KUALA LUMPUR – Police yesterday arrested 426 individuals for violating the movement control order (MCO), said Senior Minister (Security Cluster) Datuk Seri Ismail Sabri Yaakob.
In a statement today, the defence minister said 404 of those nabbed were issued compounds, 21 were detained, and one released on bail.
He said the offences included failure to provide items needed to record personal details (93 cases), failure to wear masks (88) and failure to observe social distancing (81), while 40 cases involved unauthorised interstate and inter-district travels.
He said 24 premises were found operating beyond allowed hours, 20 cases involved eating at premises without authorisation, and six involved holding unauthorised functions. Another 74 cases were for other offences.
Ismail Sabri, who is also the defence minister, said Ops Benteng, which is to curb trespassing into the country near the border areas, yesterday saw 23 undocumented migrants being rounded up and five vehicles as well as two boats being seized.
As of yesterday, a total of 92 sanitation operations were carried out nationwide involving 40 red zones, three orange zones, 10 yellow zones and one green zone.
He also assured that the supply of essential goods is sufficient and able to meet the needs of the country. This follows daily monitoring by the Domestic Trade and Consumer Affairs Ministry on 12 types of goods’ supplies.
The senior minister added that checks were conducted on 11 types of goods at 728 business premises that included retailers (546 premises), wholesalers (158) and manufacturers (24).
Meanwhile, inspections carried out at 1,656 businesses saw 22 given warnings for not complying with health and safety standard operating procedures, while two premises were compounded. – The Vibes, January 30, 2021
