SEREMBAN – Parents have been asked to provide their views on measures to enable all school and university students to get the best education amid the Covid-19 crisis.
Parliamentary Special Select Committee on Education chairman Datuk Jalaluddin Alias told Bernama yesterday that there is public concern about the challenges faced by students undertaking home-based teaching and learning (PdPR) sessions.
“I see the challenge of uncertainty in education during this unpredictable time. Many parents in both urban and rural areas complain about their children’s education, and are concerned about the future generation due to the disruption at the primary, secondary and tertiary levels owing to a lack of face-to-face classes.
“The problems faced by rural students, in terms of internet access, the lack of devices, and the ability of their parents to provide educational facilities, need to be addressed, and that is why I decided on an opinion poll to get their views.”
The Jelebu MP said all feedback will be discussed at the committee level before proposals are submitted to the government for consideration.
Apart from parents and teachers, he said, professional groups, too, are welcome to give their views on the standard operating procedure implemented at educational institutions, as well as the effectiveness of the PdPR method.
“The findings are very important to find the best formula and solution to overcome these problems. When (the solution) is found, we will submit it to the government for action relating to the national education policy.”
