SINGAPORE – A 21-year-old Malaysian man is among 54 new asymptomatic imported Covid-19 cases in Singapore yesterday.
The republic’s Health Ministry, in its report last night, said the patient is a work permit holder who arrived from his home country.
Singapore yesterday registered a total of 55 imported infections.
The other cases came from Bangladesh, Bahrain, France, India, Indonesia, Myanmar, Russia, Romania, the United Arab Emirates and the United Kingdom.
A 51-year-old Singaporean man who returned from Malaysia is also among the asymptomatic imported cases.
The country logged three cases of local transmission yesterday, all of whom have symptoms.
The fresh figures take the national tally to 59,507.
One of the cases involve a 72-year-old Singaporean man employed by Certis Cisco as an aviation screening officer at Changi Airport Terminal 1.
His test result returned positive on Friday.
He received his first dose of the Pfizer-BioNTech jab on Monday at the vaccination centre at the airport’s Terminal 4.
“As the vaccine does not contain the live virus, he could not have been infected due to vaccination. It is possible for one to be infected just before or after vaccination, as it typically takes a few weeks for an individual to build up immunity after completing vaccination,” said the ministry.
Singapore declared two clusters contained yesterday, leaving only four still active. – Bernama, January 31, 2021
