KUALA LUMPUR – Pahang Menteri Besar Datuk Seri Wan Rosdy Wan Ismail says that his mobile phone line is believed to have been hacked early this morning.
Rosdy said he will lodge a police report to prevent any untoward incident from occuring.
“I sincerely apologise to all parties who may try to communicate with me via (my) mobile phone line,” he said in a statement today.
It is understood that this is the first time the Jelai assemblyman’s mobile phone line has been hacked.
This comes in the wake of hacker group Anonymous Malaysia issuing threats recently that it will launch a cyberattack aimed at government websites.
Anonymous Malaysia said its videos are a wake-up call to the government for allegedly not acting on the many data breaches and sales of netizens’ personal information over the years.
However, it is unclear whether the group intends to hack private data of politicians.
Anonymous Malaysia first rose to “prominence” 10 years ago, when it took down 91 government websites after the country blocked and censored access to certain sites.
In 2015, the group demanded the resignation of then prime minister Datuk Seri Najib Razak over administrative failures and threatened all-out internet warfare if he refused to step down.
It also allegedly threatened to blow up former inspector-general of police Tan Sri Khalid Abu Bakar’s vehicle the same year. – The Vibes, February 1, 2021
