KUALA LUMPUR – A Felda settlement in Terengganu will be placed under the enhanced movement control order (EMCO) from tomorrow until February 17, following a rise in Covid-19 cases there.
Senior Minister Datuk Seri Ismail Sabri Yaakob, in a statement this evening, said the Health Ministry detected 45 coronavirus infections after a targeted screening involving 420 individuals at Felda Tersat in Hulu Terengganu.
He said the EMCO will also be imposed on Tenaga Nasional Bhd worksite quarters in Kuala Berang, Terengganu, after 62 cases were logged in a screening of 386 individuals.
“Upon the advice of and a risk assessment by the Health Ministry, the National Security Council agreed to implement the EMCO from tomorrow until February 17.”
He said the same order will be enforced at Felda Lasah and Kg Besi Api in Kuala Kangsar, Perak, for the same period.
“The ministry has conducted 71 tests, of which 35 cases were recorded at both localities.”
He added that the supply of necessities is sufficient to meet the country’s needs.
The Domestic Trade and Consumer Affairs Ministry’s enforcement division has conducted monitoring on the supply of 11 types of goods at 704 businesses, including retailers (585), wholesalers (160) and manufacturers (30).
Officers conducted 1,284 checks to ensure compliance with movement curbs, with eight premises advised to make improvements and another eight receiving warnings. Five premises were issued compounds.
Ismail Sabri said two undocumented migrants and three vehicles were seized in Op Benteng yesterday.
Sixty-three sanitisation operations, involving 37 red zones, two orange zones, three yellow zones and one green zone, were carried out nationwide.
Yesterday saw 611 individuals arrested for flouting movement controls, with 601 issued compounds and 10 remanded.
