JOHOR BARU – Johor’s first low-risk Covid-19 quarantine and treatment centre, the Pasir Gudang City Council (MBPG) Indoor Stadium, will be fully operational from February 10.
State Health Department (JKNJ) director Datuk Dr Aman Rabu said the centre would have a total of 1,200 beds and 60 to 100 staff from various agencies.
He said the centre will be based on the concept of the low-risk quarantine and treatment centre at the Malaysia Agro Exposition Centre Serdang (MAEPS), and will receive Covid-19 patients from categories one and two, namely those who are low-risk and asymptomatic.
“Patients admitted here will also be those who are not able to undergo home quarantine as their houses may not have an attached bathroom or have too many people under one roof,” he said at a press conference after a Health Department meeting today.
Dr Aman said the centre the MBPG Indoor Stadium would only admit local patients aged five and above, while non-citizens would be sent to MAEPS as before.
He explained that Covid-19 positive patients to be admitted to the centre would still have to undergo evaluation first at the Covid-19 assessment centre located at every district in the state.
The National Disaster Management Agency in collaboration with the State Disaster Management Committee (SDMC) and JKNJ, would look at other facilities, including hotels, to act as private low-risk quarantine and treatment centres for employers to use to house their Covid-19 positive employees. – Bernama, February 3, 2021
