KUALA LUMPUR – Badan Permuafakatan Pendidikan Mara Malaysia (Muafakat) has urged parents of Mara Junior Science College (MRSM) students not to issue inaccurate statements on the Covid-19 situation at the institution, so as to avoid causing panic.

In a statement today, Muafakat denied claims that information is being withheld, saying it always communicates transparently with the MRSM management and Majlis Amanah Rakyat (Mara) to ensure students’ safety.

“Muafakat is always open to receiving complaints (from parents), to be presented to the top management of Mara, if there are areas that need to be improved on for the welfare and well-being of students.

“At the same time, we hope that Mara will tighten monitoring and enforcement of the standard operating procedures at the college.”

Muafakat is the official body representing MRSM, Mara College and Mara Professional College students and parents.

The statement follows Covid-19 infections reported at the Kuala Nerang Mara College, MRSM Tun Ghazali Shafie in Kuala Lipis, MRSM Sg Besar and MRSM Bentong.

Muafakat said it is jointly monitoring SOP implementation as Form 5 students are back at their hostels for face-to-face learning.

Claims that students of MRSM Sg Besar in Selangor are not getting enough food, and sick students are staying in regular dormitories due to a lack of place to isolate them, have gone viral.

In a statement on Monday, Mara said it has lodged a police report to refute the allegations, and that it always ensures MRSM students comply with the SOPs set by the Health Ministry and National Security Council. – Bernama, February 4, 2021
