KOTA KINABALU – Sabah Deputy Chief Minister Datuk Seri Bung Moktar Radin has warned that the state capital could become a Covid-19 red zone and health authorities are considering a lockdown.
He said this is just a “proposal at the moment”.
Speaking to reporters, he said the pandemic in the state is the administration’s priority due to the rise in Covid-19 cases recently.
“The government is thinking about locking down Kota Kinabalu so this Covid-19 doesn’t spread to other districts.”
He said if the situation can be mitigated, the state will not put the capital under lockdown.
Currently a targeted enhanced movement control order (MCO) is being enforced at four districts on Sabah’s east coast – Lahad Datu, Tawau, Kunak and Semporna – for a two-week period until October 12.
Tawau has the most number of active cases, Semporna with 299, Lahad Datu (102) and Kunak (58).
As of yesterday, Kota Kinabalu has recorded six new Covid-19 infections, bringing the total to 98 cases.
Sabah Health-Director Datuk Dr Christina Rundi said the state capital is still a yellow zone with only 12 active cases.
There are currently 925 positive cases under treatment throughout Sabah as of yesterday. – The Vibes, September 30, 2020
